Seloc does not have a manual for this Yamaha outboard. If they did I probably wouldn't have this problem. I have the factory manual and it is vague in the area I'm dealing with.
I'm getting water in the lower unit so I droped it and applied a little air presure to see bubbles coming from the shift shaft seal. I aquired the plate, seal and oring. When I pulled the plate up the shift rod jumped out with the seal and plate. I thought "no problem" until I put the rod back in. It would spin around with my fingers, not engaging the gears. I look down the hole and I don't see any splines in the cam to match the ones on the shift rod. My question is, did something pop out when the shift rod was removed? Or is the cam stripped out? I stuck a long thin blade screwdriver to see if any metal came up on it. It was clean. I blew air lightly in the cam hole to clean it out and it looks good. A round hole, but with no splines. I had no previous problems with shifting before.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
