Folks,
Been full circle with a '99 XL1200. Adopted the machine in need of TLC last year. Once on the water the ski ran about 30-35 MPH at about 5500 RPM according to the on-board gauges. Got some advice last year (thanks Jeff) leading me to rebuild the carbs. That is done along with wave eater clips, oil pump removed (premix'in) and RIVA D-plate installed. After carb rebuild about two months ago ski is running better but still lacks that 2-stroke zip. Realized power-valve servo motor was dead and replaced that this weekend. Things got a bit better (out of the hole) but still only approx 35mph now running closer to 6000. Still getting SMOKED by my '98 1100 STX. Can't have the wife beating me. So, all cylinders running 120psi and plugs look okay. What next? Is it still a fuel issue? Does it need to warm up more? I have a YZ250 that runs like a slug if it isn't REALLY warm. Twice last year the ski ran well ... up to near 50mph so I know it is capable. Thanks for the help.
