When I raise outdrive from full down trim to full up/trailer the trim motor seems to overheat and stop. Does the same thing when I make 4 or 5 small adjustments within secs of each other - while underway.

When trying to troubleshoot the problem, I always hear a 'click' right before it stops working. Then after about 3 minutes I hear another 'click' and it begins working again. I assume this is a built-in self resetting overheat breaker.

Question: Up until now, this was never a problem. I could go from full down trim to trailer with no problem. Or make numerous adjustments while underway. Does this mean the trim motor needs to be replaced?

Thanks,

/Clint

There are things to check first. The tilt rams seals might be dry. They can actually sieze and make it very hard for the motor to work.Try lubing them with white lithium grease.Sray the rams and cycle the trim.Keep doing this and see if it help.If that doesn't help then check the fluid for water. Then the motor!!I don't know if you can take the motor apart. But give it a try.J
