99 Seadoo GSX 951 needs rebuild, 975.00, worth it or run?

I've found a 99 seadoo gsx for sale for 975 obo claiming it needs a buff and engine rebuild, but i'm not sure if doing a motor job is going to be worth it in the long run if i look to sell. What do you think? Are they difficult to time/rebuild? Ive never so much as turned a wrench on a seadoo. It would be a hobby until spring where I would sell it making a bit of money but if its going to not be cost effective I wont bother, Also, if the motor has taken a dump is there a good chance the jet pump is ready to call it quits too?....

Why do they fail? Lubrication problem?

I've found a few other running ones for only about 500 more, I think that is the way to go. 1997 Yamaha GP760 Waverunner, are they a pretty reputable PWC?

if you do it all yourrself then average deal, if dealer does it then you are paying way too much. i would pay around 500.00 as they are only worth 1500-3000 running. go to sbt to see what it cost on a motor exchange

gp760 is a awesome ski, no reliability issues. only common problem is the fuel sending unit, about 130, and its a easy install. yamaha did update these sending units, so a new one wont develope the same problem. has trim and full set of guages, and will run 52-55.

Really? I raced this bike on my WetJet with the same engine and it was a tie. Mine does 46 gps'ed. I think 52 is a bit off.
