First thank you to the powers at be for this sight, I have not posted any questions prior because I have been able to find anything I need without asking. However although I am sure this has been asked I cannot find the information.

In 1998 Mercruiser changed the part # for the Gimbal Bearing on Alpha 1s, Seirra also makes 2 different bearings with the one for newer Alphas being almost twice as much in either case. You see alot of information showing the old bearing will work for all Alphas is this true? Is there any difference??

for reference Mercuiser 30-862540a3(newer) vs 30-60794A4
Sierra 18-21005 vs 18-2100

The gen ii brgs are a little wider where the drive shaft fits in to them. They will "bottom out" on a gen I. But a gen I will work on a gen II.

Thanks guys. Typically you will see the older part # showing it will fit all Alphas, but the newer says only Alpha Gen 2's 98 or newer. I kind of thought maybe it was just a different "style" of bearing. I am going to use the older one and not worry about it.
