oddd1, all the controls, t&t come with the motor. but the question is what length of shaft do i have. call the merc dealer they told me to check the bottom pivot of the transom bracket and measure from there to the center of prop which is 20in on the 88 125 and the same on the 99 120. they said as long as those are the same the motor should work. my transom measures 18.5in and then 10inches back my drain plug extends down another 4.5inches total 23inches. the 99 is coming from a 99 trophy with a 25 in transom. it looks as if the bracket is adjustible up and down the transom by 4inches will this be okay????????i know about the force thing but this is a good deal@2000 with warrenty til 2004.any help will be appreciated

Kind of sketchy, but sounds like you are thinking of repowering? IF so, the cavitation plate should be in the same place relative to the bottom of the transom as your old engine was +/- 1". If I read your post correctly sound like it will work. Best of luck.

thanx. but wouldnt the 1988force 125 be around the same hp as the 1999 merc/force 120? from what ive read here the old ones rated hp at crank and mercs rate at prop.

The 88 was probably putting out about 115 hp + or - at the prop. It's still the same motor. Mercury changed a few things so they could use some of their parts. It"s a cost savings thing

I agree with the measurements. The trick is to get the cavitation plate on the same plane as the bottom of the boat keel. If in question err one inch one the high side-particularly with a heavy boat.<br />All manufacturers were required to measure horsepower at the prop after I believe 1982. All engines must be within 10% of their stated horsepower.

Re: 99 merc/force att: oddd1

THATS THE PROBLEM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHICH PART OF THE KEEL IS RIGHT. THE TRANSOM MEASURES 18.5IN AND THEN 10INCHES BACK THE BOTTOM WITH DRAIN PLUG DROPS ANOTHER 4.5IN. SO IS THE CAVITATION PLATE EVEN WITH THE BOTTOM OF KEEL BY DRAIN PLUG OR AT THE BOTTOM OF TRANSOM?? MERCURY HEADQUARTERS COULDNT FIND THE SERIAL# of motor.1988 usmarine force 125 model#125X4 can anyone help with fiding what lnth shaft i have.
