I have a 99 Chaparral with a 5.0 merc outdrive. It ran great last fall, was properly winterized, but won't start now. I have narrowed it down to fuel starvation. There is no power to the electric fuel pump. I was told there are safty switches (if oil pressure drops, fuel pump will shut off?) is this true? The boat started when hit with a shot of starter fluid. It only ran for 2 or 3 seconds but sounded great. Is there a fuse or breaker other than the ones on the console controlling the fuel pump? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

First of all, get rid of that starting fluid before you need an engine............
If you can't start it with gas, then don't start it.
Now, to your problem.
There is an oil pressure switch on the port side of the engine above the oil filter housing, that if bad would keep the engine from running, but it shouldn't effect the starting. What you need to do is see if you have power to the fuel pump (6) while cranking. If you do, you may have a clogged fuel pump or defective fuel pump.

Here is a Merc service bulletin that may help.
http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Bullet/01/01_04.pdf
