I recently purchase a 1999 Marada 2102CRS Performance Series bowrider by Armada Powerboats, it has a 5.0EFI. During acceleration it lists to the port side. I seems to get better once up to speed and trimmed properly. The boat only has 103 total hours. I am concerned about water saturation, but it is in such nice shape and with so few hours I am doubting that is the issue. I pulled the tank access panel near the stern and everything looks good and is coated in some pretty thick black substance. I am wondering if it just might be a characteristic of the hull design. I have checked the hull for inconsistencies all over bottom and cant find any. I also think it has been going on for a while due to it having Bennett Trim Tabs installed, so I can correct the issue, but I still want to know why. I measured it while sitting in calm water and at stern both sides measured equal distance to the rub rail, on the sides under the windshield it measured 1 inch lower on port side and 1 inch higher on starboard side. I would think if it were water saturated it would be worse than this. The boat is 3250lbs dry. I have pics of boat if needed. The one thing I am seriously thinking is the 19P High Five prop might be doing it, but would it be that noticeable. I need a new prop any way, I can bounce this thing off the rev limiter at 5400 with no effort at all, I have to keep checking the tach to keep them aroung 4600. I am thinking about a 3 blade 21P. BTW the hydrofoil was the first thing to go, and it help some with the listing, but it still does it enough to make me wonder why...

Thanks, Mike

It's referred to as 'prop torque'. Most, if not all single engine motors installed will turn clockwise ( unless ordered as a CCW unit ). From the rotation of that right hand motion it has the tendency to lift the port side up a bit.
Now you mentioned your prop was possibly too small - could be an issue but the effects won't be nullified by going to a bigger pitch either - it will definitely save your engine though.
You said that you had Bennetts installed -try adjusting them to counter act the torque. It will take a little bit getting tweaked in but it certainly won't hurt. Remember once you get going put them back into their neutral position and set them from your cruise speed.
BTW - nice looking boat ! :D

Well the side pic was to sort of show hull design, and the rear pic was to show that the scum line was level, the Bennetts, and the High Five prop. Does the High Five cause that much prop torque?

One prop from another is not truly the culprit. The high 5's will give you a better hole shot but generally speaking will not add or diminish the torque.
It's just the nature of the beast I suppose.
I didn't notice this before but I see you have a doel fin ( or whatever ) attached to your lower unit. Take that puppy off and go give it a spin. Betcha' you'll find out that your problem will diminish a bunch.
On another line you're gonna' find some boats ( outboards ) with twins where the motors will be installed so the props spin inward compared to the conventional outboard roataion. Fountain is one of them - they say it adds stern rise faster than using the outboard rotating wheels. I have no idea why I added that. Just must be bored this afternoon.
Anyhow- take off that trim fin. See if that doesn't help some.;)

Its been gone, first thing I did. It helped some, but did not correct it.

I think you already got them- nature of the beast. Learn to use the tabs to counteract prop torque. Left tab lowered to some degree on hole shot, then adjust up as speed increases to keep the boat level. You need to play with it.

You may try removing the whale tail and see if that does anything. Plus, I don't think you need the tail and the tabs at the same time.

Re: 99 Marada 21' listing to port HELP or ideas?

I had a 20' Century with a high five prop and whale tale that did the same thing. The problem only occurred under full throttle acceleration. Removing the whale tale and installing the original prop. helped a lot.

I liked the way the boat jumped out of the water with the tale and high five prop. So I moved all my heavy stuff (anchors, tools, extra battery etc.) to the opposite side and with some small adjustments the problem was gone. Since I generally went out with the same people and gear the boat work great from then on.

I think the five blades grab the water and transfer the torque to the boat much more than a three blade prop does. I was not helping the problem as most of my heavy items were on the torque side of the boat.
