I have a 90 hp mercury, 3 cylinder, 2 stroke. It has CDM ignition.
The motor start, runs for 3-10 seconds and then dies just like the key was turned off. It will generally start right back up and do the same thing. I tried starting it 10 times or more and it always starts and always dies. Don't think it is a fuel issue, it happened all of a sudden and I changed the fuel filter to be sure.
The engine trouble started after a 4 hour trailering of the boat and all 3 spark plugs vibrated loose. After the engine died in the water, I was looking it over and found the problem, tightened the plugs, but forgot to put one plug wire back on. Started it up, it ran poorly and then died, found the disconnected plug wire put it back on, hasn't ran well since.
I suspect it is likley I fried the CDM unit that I had disconnected from the plug, does this sound right?
Is there a way to confirm this before I buy a new CDM unit?
