Hi all,
Helping out a neighbor trying to get the motor running.

motor cranks fine, but we're not getting any spark to any
of the 4 cyls. also there is no voltage at any of the coils.

we have 12v on the incoming side of the 'switch box' and
into the two blues, & two reds.

boat is in the driveway leveled - waterhose adaptor hooked up.

I'm at a loss on this one.

TIA,

_mr

You need a good repair book and a multi meter. There are a number of locations that need to be measured. You could have a bad coil, switch box, rectifyer.

Re: '98 Merc - 75hp - No Spark

Main Reason for no spark: (everyone point at me - laugh!)

the kill switch was messed up and engaged.

But now while we do have spark on #3 & #4,
#1 & #2 are dead. did a quick check on the stator leads
(R&R/W, B&B/W)with the VM before it raining,
1&2 were zero on cranking while #3 pegged the
meter (set at 50v) and #4 was only showing ~15v.

So I guess I'll be yanking off the flywheel tomorrow and
checking the stator.

-- does that sound plauible? --

thanks again!
