Pulled the plug wire on the middle cylinder on each side. No fire getting to these two middle plugs. Doubt it's a plug, wire or coil since it's happening to both in the middle. I'm guessing there's something common to these two cylinders? I've seen some similar posts that suggest a timer base but I'm not clear what the timer base is and if my symptoms match that as being the culprit. On another OMC I had a problem where one bank went out and that was a power pack problem.

It could be the timer base. The ignition is primarily side to side (bank to bank) on that motor. Try switching coils and wires around and see if the problem follows the coils / wires in question. Clean the primary posts (small orange wire) real good too. And the grounds.
