have isolated that the e-cut off is working properly. ground circuit opens with lanyard, closes when lanyard is pulled.

I have a double coil attached to the plug wires. The small red wire input is showing 0.00 ohm continuity with the engine block! Is that correct or is that my problem, a shorting coil?

If so, how does that happen in dry storage on what appeaes to be a hermetically sealed unit?

Thanks, Chris M

Not being familiar with that motor or your ohmmeter, I'll stick my neck out and say it is probably OK. A reading of 0.05 to 0.1 on the primary winding would be typical. Do you know if your meter is capable of reading such low resistances accurately?

It is reading about 0.1 ohms if i set it correctly, small post to ground. I was prob @ k ohms.

Fairly good meter MAC EM710. Meter user, however, may be "not so pretty good" . Reading across output posts is 2.324 K ohms. Dang, i thought maybe i was getting somewhere. part #584451.

Remove the main orange wire from whatever it's connected to. Connect the black lead of your meter to the spark plug boot terminal, then with the red lead, touch the ground of the coil or the powerhead itself if the coil is still installed.

Then touch with the red lead the orange wire if it's attached to the coil. If it's not attached, touch the primary stud of the coil. You should get a reading on both touches. If not, check the spring terminal inside the boot of the spark plug wire.

there is an orange wire with a blue stripe to the primary coil terminal, i removed that. i pulled a plug wire off the plug and attached the black lead of my meter (set on ohms) to the plug boot, then i touch the red lead of the meter to the powerhead and i get no reading measurement. i try the other plug boot and i get nothing there either.

then i touch the red lead to the orange/blue wire and i get no reading measurement.

then i refer to page 32.asp on 2 strokes(though mine is a 4stk) and i wonder how i should do voltage tests on my rope start motor while not running. it has no spark.

now i'm really lost, but thank you for trying. chris
