Note: 98 Evinrude was the last year of carbs...this is a non-Ficht engine.

Here is my saga:
Although intermittent, I can repeat the drop in rpm. The engine must be run 5-10min under load (ie, heat related failure). The symptom is a loss of rpms (similar to the SLOW system activating). However, no idiot lights on the SystemCheck gauge are on (self test on Systemcheck is fine). Timing is fine at low rpms. I believe timing is off and erratic at higher rpms (I will verify with timing light soon). I have also checked the Quikstart system for always on condition...the diode tests fine (I have the shop manual).

Everything seemed to point to a power pack intermittent failure...so I replaced it last night. However, water test showed that I still had the problem.

Things I have checked:
1)flywheel pulled to verify magnets and alignment.
2)fuel obstruction and water in fuel (neither seem to be the problem)
3)carbs (verfied fuel w/strong suction flowing thru all six)
4)spark on all 6 plugs...didn't verify peak output voltage...but all 6 will arc about 1" off block)

Where to now?
Stator test? Rectifier?

Thanks,
Bama_Bubba

Running the std issue:
Champion QL78YC @ 0.030
They have <50 hours on them.
Engine has <100 hours on it.
Plugs are clean...I use carbon guard and do not troll much.

Thanks,
Bama_Bubba
