Have a 97 Yamaha Waverunner 1100, it used to run great and then late last year would not idle and it bogged down.

I only know how to put gas, oil and plugs in it I need to know how to clean the carbs any help with a free online manual would help.

Thanks

Have you done a compression check yet? auto zone will rent the tool for free with a deposit. any thing over 120 psi is good.

ROUGH IDLE 1997 Yamaha Waverunner 1100

ROUGH IDLE 1997 Yamaha Waverunner 1100

Put fresh gas in today and new plugs..........the only way to get it started was to spray stater fluid in the carb.

Then it would run rough....and not idle !!!!

What should I do next??

I have a 1996 Wave Venture 1100 and would not stay running w/o the choke fully on. You likely have carb problems also. I have pulled my carbs and am in the process of finding rebuild kits. You will need to get carbs off, there are 6 intake bolts, and you have to disconnect choke and throttle, and fuel lines from fuel pump as well from other end. As far as I can tell these are Mikuni SBN 38 carburetors.

http://www.mikuni.com/pdf/sbn_manual.pdf

There are six 12mm bolts holding carbs on, a couple were tough to get at, I was able to get them using a 12mm stubby wrench, and a 12pt ratchet wrench from Sears. The carbs themselves have 4 screws on each side, mine are corroded, I have managed to loosen some of them with an impact driver and a bernzomatic torch. I have them soaking in a tray with an inch of penetrating oil for the last stubborn ones. I was able to get the plate off one, the diaphragm was brittle and gritty, not good. (This is what pumps the fuel.) If you're only good at oil and gas, this project may be a bit of a challenge, you might try to enlist a friend who is handy with tools if you can't get the carbs off. (I've worked on everything but jet skis, so this in new to me also.) Maybe someone will chime in who has been through this with some pointers. John

if you can get it off idle and past the pilot citcuit ... does it clean up and rev at about 1/2 throttle and beyond ? if so its your pilot jets... just need a good cleaning

Re: 97 Yamaha Waverunner 1100

ok......got running (rough) and dropped it in the water..........would only go about 10mph WIDE OPEN.

Also it looks like it is leaking oil........there is oil back where the battery is.

That can't be good..................Questions

1) how much would a complete rebiuld cost
2) or should I get a new motor install
3) Junk it and save my $$$ for a new one

I think you're getting a little ahead of yourself by thinking that you'd need a new motor or to junk it. You have a carb problem. Do the compression check just to make sure though.

To do a complete and proper rebuild, you're going to want OEM Mikuni rebuild kits and needles and seats. A lot of places use aftermarket carb kits and don't replace the needles and seats. It makes a huge difference and I've seen nightmares with the aftermarket kits. You're looking at about $150-160 for the kits for the 3 carbs if you were to do it yourself, which based on your "I only know how to put oil, gas and plugs in" comment, I wouldn't reccomend.

Dealerships will charge you an arm and a leg and probably make you wait a while. If you're interested, and are comfortable with taking them off and putting them on youself, you can ship them to me and I'll do them for $100 total labor plus the parts at cost. I do it on the side as more of a hobby than to make money.

If not and you want to try and do it yourself, let me know and I can help walk you through the steps to do it.

As far as the oil goes, it could be anything, loose wire, crack in the oil tank. Try to find out where it's coming from and report back.

I'm not familiar with yamaha oil pumps, but if they are similar to the one on an Kawi ZXi - you may have an oil feed line that has slipped off a carb and that's where you're "oil leak" is coming from.
