I need a mechanical genius out there to give me an idea what kind of problem I might be experiencing.
Sympton: With the boat in neutral I crank the engine over and if it will start and run/idle it is good . I can take off and it runs like a champ. Somtimes , however, it will act like it is going to start. It will start to fire off but then it dies. I can pump the throttle with no effect. It is as if the fuel or the fire is being shut off just after it tries to start. Sometimes it will start over and over one day and the next morning it won't start. Also, sometimes it will start repeatedly but after pulling tubers it will not start. Its very intermittent.
Attempted Fixes: I have had it the shop twice for this issue. The first time they replaced the rotor, distributor, ignition module, spark plugs, and both fuel pump relays. The second time they determined the mounting base that the fuel pump relays plug into were not making good contact so they wired the relays directly removing the base from the circuit. I had been told the back flow valve could cause this problem. I took that out and examined it and it seemed to be working properly.
This is one of those Volvo Penta engine/outdrive with OMC's name on it. Model # 57FAPLKD SER. # T01298400
Any help someone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
