I have had the boat in the shop over a month and they first diagnosed it with a clogged fuel filter. As soon as I hit the water the same problem persisted. I can throttle up gently or quickly does not matter. When I throttle gently the boat engines creeps up to about 2700 RPMs power drops off and if I leave the throttle alone eventually the engine will power back up again. Also, after the power drops off I can here a squealing sound in the engine similar to a belt squealing but not as loud. The shop is now suggesting to replace the ECM. Very Expensive and I'm not convinced that is the problem. Any ideas?:(

Howdy,

I think you have essentially a Volvo Penta engine and SX drive.

I did a little searching around and it appears there's a few different models (PCM) to choose from ranging from $400-$1000 . http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/omc

If your PCM is faulty, there's not much you can do about it.... They should be able to tell by putting a scan tool on it.

You might post this in the Volvo Penta area if DonS doesn't see it here. He's a Volvo Penta Expert and will probably have some personal experience with that model.

Good luck, And Welcome aboard!

Hello, I am having the same problem with my volvo penta. They replaced a fuel filter and said my low pressure pump was bad and changed it out. put my boat back in the water and nothing changed, same problem. I was wondering if you figured out what was wrong with your boat. thanks

The shop I have it at now says they have figured out the problem and it was a sensor failing and putting the engine in Engine Distress Mode I believe it is called. Anyway, they have ordered the part and I am hoping to find out this week if I have a functioning boat. I will reply when I can confirm the exact problem and a successful repair. I feel your pain... very frustrating. I have not had a boat since Memorial Day.
