My 97 nissan model TRKXES 2400 suffered a fire last week. It looks like the power steering hoses started spraying and caught on fire. Had it out very fast but burnt the wiring harness on the driver side of the truck. This harness runs to both OX sensors, and the lights on the left side. Can someone help me with where I can get the part numbers and where to order the harnesses? I called my local dealer and was "helped" by some dummy that told me I had to have the part # before he could help me. I told him that was why I was calling him, so I could get the correct # and order the parts. He then told me I would have to bring the truck in so they could figure it out. DUH!!! The wife brought home a Hanes but it did not have the # in it.
I can replace the wiring if I can only get the harnesses.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Michael

I suggest you phone another dealership or Nissan of North America and have a competent person supply you with the part you need. They have the schematics in their data banks.

Sometimes the auto wrecker has those wiring harnesses stripped from vehicles.

Re: 97 Nissan wiring meltdown

Went to a dealer today, had a service tech help me find the wiring harness that I needed. 1700.00, I almost fainted, I pointed out on the screen the part I needed and he said that section is 997.00.I said that that couldn't be more than 50.00 worth of wire and he told me "yeah, but you got these high dollar connectors". My poor truck will have to sit for awhile.
I called the local junk yards and the U-Pull IT places, and no one has one, everbody says that as soon as they get stuff like that its sold.
It is the XE. On mine the power steering hose must have developed a pin hole and sprayed onto the exhaust pipe. The flames blowing back towards the firewall melted all of the insulation on the wires going to the ox sensors and I think that as I was stopping the fan blew the flames up the left fender melting the harness where it goes through the fender wall to the lights on the left side, but the lights still work.

Any chance you could splice fresh wire in place of the burned sections one at a time.A bit time consuming perhaps but much cheaper than $900.Guess it dedpends on how much of the wire harness is burned.Did it take out the connectors or just a center section of the harness?

Check ebay???

I would just rewire it myself and use common of the shelf weatherproof connectors.

Ken

Before you go too far ...... Address the power steering leak as well.We scrapped our Nissan yard truck because the hose/tube combination that ran under the radiator rotted away.We tried patching and other 'fixes' but they all leaked powersteer fluid.New parts were as overpriced as your wire harness.

DHP

ob, I thought of that but there are a couple of thermal wires in there that may pose a problem. The connectors seem ok, but the insulation is melted right up to the connectors. I am going to mess with it and see what I can do. Have not priced the hoses yet but, can get them made up at local shop. Cheaper than Dealer.
