97 mariner 40hp Please Help

I recently bought a 97 mariner 40hp 3 cyilender motor brand new. The motor will run fine for the first 5 min. After that the motor starts to loose power. Goes about half the speed. It's kicks in maybe every 5 min for 5 seconds and has full power agian. The motor pumping water, seems like an electrical problem either the stator or the coil? <br /><br />Thanks for any help.

Did you by the motor new from a dealer? If you did I would imagine that it came with a warrenty.

Try to squeeze the primer bulb when it's acting up , it that helps, its fuel related and you will need to go thru fuel system from the tank all the way to the carbs.

the bulb is hard and it has no effect when squezing it.

uh huh.. a newer 40 hp is a real motor andwould push a duck boat ooohhh so well. youd probly call my boat names and laugh if you saw it, but it has seen alot of fish die...<br /><br />dont be like that guy who laughs and watches boats sink at the boat ramp.

We all can't sink our bayliner at the dock like you Greg. What a funny sight that must have been. Look on the bright side it was at the bottom of the bay where it belongs. Best thing that could happen to a Force motor is take a swim. Its a hyundai of boat motors!!!
