The Johnson picture of setting the timing is not clear to me. Could someone elaborate on the settings of the inner and outer tabs? Pictures would be great.
Thank you.
(I did a link & Sink Saturday and apparently screwed it up. I lost about 1200 rpm since messing wit it. I do have the OMC analyzer that's called for and in the past I was successful, but not this time.)
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you,
Nick

Finally resolved my self inflected issue today, it wasn't the timing, it was the link of the carburetors. In doing the link & sync procedure, the clamps that connect the linkage on each of the 2 banks of carburetors get loosened and the throttle butterflies are checked to be sure that they are fully seated, then the clamps re-tightened. What I didn't understand is that the shafts that these clamps hold are only engaged by a very small amount and when tightened the clamp slipped off leaving the lower 2 carburetors of the port bank disconnected. The engine idled fine as all 6 carburetors were at idle, but when the pedal was put to the metal 2 cylinders were not cutting the mustard.
Too much is even worse. I used a flat blade screwdriver to hold the clamp up for maximum engagement while tightening the clamp. this caused some binding of the linkage and when I went for a test run, the throttle stuck at wide open when I tried to slow down. It did slow down to about 1/2 speed because the timing advance backs off but it will not allow the gear to go to neutral without turning the key off. I rigged a small bungee to pull the linkage to idle and limped home where I fixed my screw ups and successfully completed the procedure.
Don't hire me as an outboard mechanic. I'm very lucky that no harm was done. I hope my screw-ups prevents others.
Nick
