Noticed a '97 191 Islander for sale for $9500 so I checked NADA which list average price is $5255 which includes extras that were listed. Even if you factor one in an "outstanding" condition, that's a big $$ difference. Realistically, what would a fair price be?

I think it depend on if you are east coast, west coast, or midwest area's.
Then what kind of conditions is it in, hours, and other.
If it is a i/o boat make sure you run it and look for a cracked block, manifold, and other.
Also look at the transmon for rot. My starcraft leaked water in from the top of the transmon (rain water) and rotted the transmon from the top down. I did not discover this until after I bought the boat. Needless to say I had to replace the transmon. Mine is a 86, but a 97 could have transmon damage. Also check the floor to see if it is soft.
Also how is the trailer?, do you plan to use it in salt water. If so you want a galvanized trailer is preferred.
I priced a new one 5 yrs ago and a 22 foot was running about $25,000, if my memory is correct.
Off the top of my head I am thinking 5-7,000; 9+ seems alittle high for a 97 unless it is in great shape, low hours, always been winterized and stored indoors. Just my thoughts.
It a boat you spend $ to get one then more $ to keep them running.

Re: '97 Islander

I'm not new to boating but am interested in buying an Islander for the cabin for the wife when it gets cold, windy and rain while fishing. I've been reading up on Starcraft's pros and cons so I won't (hopefully) fall prey from a "not so honest" seller . I emailed this seller to ask why his price is double of the NADA list. His reply was because it's the only Islander for sale on the west coast . I'm in no rush so I think I'll keep looking :p.

Wow...Thats a heck of a sales ploy..
You could fly here, rent a uhaul and drive back to Cali with lots of $$$ in your pocket...lol

Now that's what I'm taking about. Being retired, that certainly a do-able thing :D. Thanks
