'97 Ford E-150 Cruise Control?

The Cruise Control in my venerable '97 E-150 van just quit. After 11 years and 223K miles of reliable service, I guess it was time.

The CC is controlled from steeringwheel switches with the on/off and set speed buttons. Is anyone aware of what the most likely component to have failed is?

It could be a simple switch that got dirty or something else that is simple. I hate to go pay a dealer big $$$$$$$$$$'s just to diagnose it. That is their game these days. Huge upfront diagnostic charges then a quote to repair.

Check the fuses, make sure "all" brake lights work (even the high mount), and check the brake light switch. Check to see if the cable is attached to the throttle linkage and the speed servo.

If you need more diagnostic info I can print out the diagnostic chart for ya. I'd have to print scan and e-mail it, would take a little while but will if you need it.

I don't know if the 150s use the Same system as the 250s,......
But,......
If you have a little Sensor mounted to the very Front of the Master Cylinder,......Change it,+ the Cruise will Work again.......Or just Jumper the wires together for a Test....

It's Real Common on the 250s........

Okay, haven't had the time to dive into this with both feet but I did check all brake lites including the 'high mount, all good. I also looked at the master cylinder and hanging off the bottom front of it is what looks like an old time pressure activated brake lite switch. I think that must be what you are talking about Bond-o. If so, I will disconnect the plug and jumper it out to see what happens.

I still have not pulled the leads off that unit to short them out. Is my recollection correct that that unit is powered 24/7 and was the cause of a number of Fords burning up in the garage at night?

Ayuh,........I Don't Know.........

When I found out about it thru a forum,.....
I went to Ford,+ bought the Switch,.......

Plugged it back in,+ it's Still Working.........
