MY ENGINE CRANKS RIGHT UP, BUT AFTER BEING ON THE WATER FOR A WHILE, IT BEGINS TO MISS AND WILL BARELY BE MOVING AT FULL THROTTLE. NOT KNOWING VERY MUCH ABOUT MOTORS, I TOOK A FRIEND OUT WITH ME THE LAST TIME FOR HIS OPINION. HE SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE MAYBE A CYLINDER WASN'T FIRING PROPERLY, OR I MAY HAVE TRASH IN MY FUEL. I HAVE NEVER COMPLETELY RAN ALL THE FUEL OUT, USUALLY AT 1/2 TANK I ADD ABOUT 20 GALS. IF THIS IS THE PROBLEM, SHOULD I TRY SOME SORT OF OCTAIN BOOSTER ADDITIVE, IS THERE SOMETHING YOU CAN PUT IN YOUR TANK TO REDUCE CONDENSATION?? ALSO, WHEN WE CHECKED THE PLUGS THE ONE ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT, WAS DIRTY AND SMELLED OF GASOLINE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM WITH MY MOTOR FOR OVER A YEAR AND AFTER NUMEROUS VISITS AND QUITE A FEW $$, I AM NO CLOSER IN SOLVING IT. ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED!!

Sorry to hear of your FICHT troubles.. you say that you have had this problem for awhile?! wonder how come they haven't fixed it yet? these engines are not much different then the carbies. same theory, just a different way of going about it... did they replace the fuel lift pump?? if you have a manual or alittle knowledgeable you can remove the pulse lines from the block. adn squeeze teh primer bulb HARD.. if you see the slightest drop of fuel replace the lift pump!!!!. they are CHEAP!!, if you have a fuel pressure test hook it up to the pressure tap on the return fuel line, you should see 20-35 lbs when running. and it should be steady, if not steady then squeeze the primer bulb. have you checked your plugs? check the gap .030" and make SURE that they are INDEXED correctly!!! do you have any warning lights or horns going off??? ohh one more thing,,, please do not type in all caps! kinda irritating!!

hope this helps good luck

SP

The bottom/right cylinder is #5, which is one of the pulse lines for the fuel lift pump. If the diaphragm is bad, it can seep or leak extra fuel into that cylinder. Test the pulse lines as SP recommends. What is the max rpm the motor will now run and what boat and prop combination do you have? What # spark plugs are you using? Can you do a compression test?

-John
