I'm looking at a boat with this engine on it. It only has 24 hours on it. I don't have a lot of experience anything this new. Can anyone tell me positive and negative experiences about this one? Is it a FICHT? What does that stand for?

bonehunts.....Ficht does not really stand for anything, it is the name of the German family that created the type of direct injection system used by Evinrude on these motors. I believe 1997 was the first year the Ficht system was used(maybe a little earlier on smaller hp motors). I am not quite sure how it worked out on smaller hp motors such as the 115 you are looking at, but the early 150 and 175 hp Ficht's were very problematic and it is eventualy one of the things that made OMC go bankrupt. There were alot of updates and changes made to the 150 and 175's but I'm not sure about the V4 115's. They eventually got the problems straightened out in 2000 and the Ficht system proved to be very good, economical, quiet and very responsive. I have a 2000 150 and it is a great motor and never had any problems. You should post this on the Johnson/Evinrude site and there will be experts there that can tell you everything about these early lower hp Ficht's. Good luck.

Lets start with a model number. Thats the only way we can "see" the motor from in here.

The V4 injected motors started in 2000, but lets be sure of what we have here.

Good luck!

And a 60 degree too. Great motors! Errrrr..... I mean.... terrible motors. I'll take it off your hands for a small fee.

Seriously, they are very good motors. I would suggest the normal service be done since its obviously been sitting. A good carb cleaning would be at the top of my list.

Good luck!
