hey guys, new to the site today since i just bought 2 wave runners a little earlier today. Well here goes, any insight would be great and appreciated.

First ski is a 2000 gp 800 yamaha.. has about 30 hours on it. Long story short, i bought it from a divorced lady that hasnt used them since she was divorced 5 years ago. This ski had a cover with a hole in it and no seat on it. Needless to say, there was a decent amount of water in the engine bay.. i would say about 8 inches of water. What did that harm? What could it have harmed? The ski was not started with the water in it. As far as that ski goes, that is it. The ski ran perfectly fine the last time it was out and then it has just sat.

Second ski is a 1997 gp 760 yamaha. has about 45 hours on it. This ski was also outside for the past 5 years, it did not have water in the engine bay at all.. but in the back i guess there are 2 cables that are hooked to the handle bars to control what i assume to be the reverse? neutral? i am not sure, they are totally freyed. Also the handle bars were locked up but now they are not, but even though they are now moving they are still a little tough? I assume there is a certain check list to do when you buy a wave runner that has sat for a long period of time, if that is the case, that info would be helpful haha..

Any suggestions on where to start with these skis would be absolutly awsome. Thanks in advance

You're going to need a fair bit of help with those neglected skis. Maybe you'll get lucky and you can replace some cables, batteries and tune up parts and get these things running with minimal effort but you'd better say a prayer first.

As far as the 8" of water in the hull, as long as it didn't get into the engine, it shouldn't be bad. I'm just wondering what, if any, other outside corrosion has taken place.

Anyway, I'm a member on this fantastic PWC site and I highly recommend it:

I may be old school and get flamed for this but i would do the old 1/4 cup of tranny fluid down the carb bit before you bumped it over if its not too late. Let the fluid sit for a day. The pistons may have a little rust on them. Also the gas in the fuel delivery has now crystalised. If there carbed (I dont know the years too good). rebuild em just for peace of mind. Fuel injected i dont know how to clear em. Someone else will have to chime in. Change injectors. pump and fuel lines? Good luck, every toy i buy seems to have sat for at least 2 years. (all i can afford is cr@p)

artificial has some good advice above ^. I'd probably pull the plugs and just squirt some tranny fluid into the cylinders and let it sit.

As far as the carbs go, I'm 100% certain they're going to need a rebuild. If the previous owner neglected the skis like you described, then you know they didn't stabilize the gas either (not that stabilizer will do the trick for 5 years, anyway  !)

I can guarantee that those carbs' needles and seats are completely gummed up and you won't get any fuel flow.

First put oil in through spark plug holes and do a proper compression check, do not allow more than I think 5% to 10% variance, if higher the engine will need a new top end at least, make sure spark plug wires are properly grounded. If compression is good then......You are going to have to drain gas tanks, replace all fuel lines, lube steering cables, rebuild carbs & fuel pump, replace oil injection lines and bleed, run first tank of gas with oil/gas mixture, put a line at the oil level on the oil tank to verify if the oil pump is working if they are oil injected. remove impeller and pump to check bearings, wear ring and impeller blades. check all cooling lines and pissers (small lines for visual checks of water flow). If all that is done and good to go, you should be ok.

You will get this as well from Green hulk PWC forum.
