I run my engine for a short run, all gauges normal. The engine dies, I let it cool down 2 hours and starts aok and does same. I have checked everything twice so the next time it dies I pour cool water over the module [807264t3]
the engine starts right away. I have tried this 3 times and it works each time.
My question is, should I order this part or are there further tests to prove the part is bad?
This part is quite expensive and there are no returns for this type of module.
Thank you,
sjbinc

That's not exactly a test mentioned in the Mercruiser service manual, but it shows there may be a problem when the ICM (not ECM) gets hot.
No way of really testing them short of replacing.

I've found a Thunderbolt V diagnostic chart for you. It does sound like you've found the culprit, but run this chart and see how you go.

Thunderbolt V ignition system.

Go to page 17 and you'll find a flowchart.

Good luck.

Chris.............

You might try cleaning the module and re-appling the thermo paste to make sure you are getting a good heat transfer from module to the metal mounting bracket. Also check for corrosion on terminals. See top of page 10 of the link.
