Hello, I'm looking for some explination and asistance in figuring out a problem with my 97 200 Yamaha. I recently purchased this motor from my good friend that I have gone fishing with many times with this motor, it well taken care of any way, a marine mechanic friend of mine and Myself removed the motor and electric gauges and installed them on my boat. everything was great going out the pass at idelspeed run 200yrds and the temp buzzer went off the motor backed down automaticly. I replaced both termastats and tried again the same results, anyone have something for me. thanks

Re: 97 200 Yamaha

Motor came off a 22ft century, now it's on a 20 ranger bay boat 2001. I called ranger about shaft lenght one person said 25in and another said 20in I measured from bottom of boat to top of transom and I roughly got 25in, I say roughly because it's a tunnel haul and it was hard to measure for sure and this is all new to me. What I dont understand is why the buzzer is going off and shutting my motor down like it's overheating and when I put a heat gun to it, it (gun) reads the heads at a max of 130. It pee's out cold and strong you can shut the motor off wait a minute or 2 and buzzer does not come on again untill you run about 200 yard again.

Re: 97 200 Yamaha

Oil engine tanks is full to it's proper level, the Gauge show all arrow when you turn the key and then one arrow stays on above the green circle. When the buzzer goes off the arrow for the thermometor/temp is blinking. Batteries are new and all connections are tight, double checked all connections on the wiring harness. This week I'm going to disconnect all connections with battery off and re-plug them. Do these motors have a computer (97 Yama 200)? thanks

Re: 97 200 Yamaha

make sure the littlte metal holder for that rubber damper isnt corroded and holing the wear plate up.
make sure you spin the driveshaft clockwise when installing the housing assy to the unit.
make sure the housing has no signs of melt.
s200TXRV is indeed a 25" motor.

Thanks, I'll make sure to look and do those things. As far as the temp gauge what is the green circle indicate and should the arrow always be on above it? I think maybe the gauge is not ground or a wire is making contact somewhere or maybe the gauge is bad.You can turn the motor off and restart after 5 seconds almost like your resetting something. thank again

Re: 97 200 Yamaha

the green arrow thing simply indicates sufficient oil is in the remote tank for automatic transfer.
I am thinking you pinched the grey wire or the pink wire under the hood or between the engine and the tank.
otherwise it would not cool down that fast,
could also be a failing temp switch.
but if the water pump maint is unknown that is where I would start.
