We go to the fishing hole, tilt up engine and fish. Then we go to leave and the tilt motor wont run. The emergency screw for relieving pressure to the hydraulic system happens to be below the water line. My gut feeling is that opening this screw under water is a bad idea, After tapping on the motor, while holding the switch, it functions. <br />Would it be a mistake to open up that screw under water? --and-- I see that there are holes on the transom bracket, presumably for a tilt position bolt (like the old days). Can a poor man disconnect the Hyd. system, put a tilt position bolt in place and use the engine without the T/T system until payday?

I have a older version. when you open the emergency screw to let the motor down it should not allow water to enter the hydraulic system. the screw is a needle valve with an O ring seal just don't back it off to much. It is not hard to remove electric tilt motor I suspect the brushes are sticking or the whole motor is full of rust etc which should cleaned. tight lines
