My 96 seadoo has not spark. Upon looking myself found a blown fuse in the electric box. Replaced it with a new 20amp and it started right up but it melted the coil. So i replace the coil. And found it was suppose to be a 15 amp. Still not spark and when i hooked up the positive on the battery smoke started comming out of the trim control box. So i unplugged the powersupply going to the trim motor and still have no spark. Someone please help.

Re: 96 XP with no spark

these mpems are bs. what fuse is blowing? i have a 95 twin engine speedster that i am slowly bypassing entire mpem. when i bought it the one half(mine is like 2 mpems) the wires melted straight from mpem to stator on one engine so now one engine is not even connected through mpem,on mine there is a rev limiter wire that is blk w/red stripe going from mpem to stator which kills spark. snip it and try for spark. if its cranking right now that may be the only section of mpem that is bad(thats how mine is) if i hook back up there is no spark to that motor. youll know your problem then and you can prob get an aftermarket one cheap but any dess key will work then.these mpems are just glorified fuse boxes which prevent you from repairing a simple circut just because its buried in liquid glue. the accessory relay on mine also burned out so all my gauges are bypassed. soon that thing will be gone and it will become a fuse box.and that extra 5amps wouldnt make a difference, a bad short it would still pop.and if you must jump off a car.....do not start car

Re: 96 XP with no spark

those mpem's do a lot more than serve as a "glofied fusebox". The most important thing they serve for the average rider is a safety feature so nobody with a DESS key can hop on your ski and take it away.

Go here for a free shop manual download for your ski.

Download it and follow the troubleshooting instructions in the electrical system. I would highly reccomend not doing what darrenz did...it will only create more problems and time that you're not on the water for you.

Good luck!

Re: 96 XP with no spark

like i said.... i recommended he replace his mpem. i can do what i want with mine because i know my electronics.... yes i consider it a glorified fuse box because how smart is it that i would have to replace my mpem for a thousand dollars just because a 5 dollar relay burns out powering your gauges is non removable,or accessory output burns out etc.there are alot of circuts passing through these boxes that dont need to be.if all your fuses wernt sunk right into the mpem many of these problems could be easily repaired.a jetski mpems are much cheaper than for the boats.
