pull off the ground wire end at the starter it's up by the front of the starter. clean it real good and clean the place where it bolst to the engine, if this dosen't fix it go to the guage and run a ground to the black wire at the guage, if adding a ground fixes it fine if not the guage could be bad, I just had one that did exactly that and it was the guage that needed to be replaced.

nope my last hog was a 70 electra glide fully dressed and custom painted, sold it when my youngest daughter was born 23 years ago. That is probably why Im still alive, I was just as crazy on a bike as I am on a ski ,only the water isn't as tough on the clothes as the pavement is.

re-made gnds ..no help ..I told neighbor to always put batt on charger after use , system appears to work , just guage (lite) is bad.<br />no reason to buy guage as the rest of it works fine ...<br />If it ever quit s charging , She will know with the batt charger taking a long time to recharge .<br />Or , lol a ski that wont turn over ..<br />"where is the Kickstarter on that thing "

Re: 96 XP 787 voltage

just be sure all the pin connectors in the wire harness are clean some of them get corroded and even turn green, I found a small roto tool that works on 12 volts from harbour freight for around 9 dollars , I made clips for the tool to attach to the battery and use it to clean out all the connectors plus the spark plugs etc it comes with a variety of tips for just about any situation it also has an addaptor for house current, before I found that I tried everything to clean those stupin connectors even tuner cleaner at 10 dollars a can from radio shack didn't come close to working, this rotary tool works like a dream. http://order.harborfreight.com/EasyAsk/harborfreight/results.jsp?ts=Sun Oct 16 04:09:15 PDT 2005 I purchased it when it was on sale but even the full price is wort it. just punch in rotary tool in the key word box

Re: 96 XP 787 voltage

good idea...<br />I will see what I can make ( small brush) to use in my variable speed dremel..<br />12 guage brush might be too big ...lol..<br />but If a man was to cut a slot in a small shaft,<br />and put a few short bristles( soft brass) in the slot <br />that might suffice ..<br />I will try it ...thanks..will let you know

no room for a brush in the conectors, I find small bits one that fits inside the femals ends to go inside and clean out the corrosion, and then use it to go around the outside sirface of the male pins, then spray them with silicon spray to wash out the residue and help keep them from corroding again use some silicon dialectric grease.

Re: 96 XP 787 voltage

since those coils are 12 volt, if the battery gets low the ski will start to run bad and the low volt light comes on and flashes 'usually' any way. but if the meter shows it is charging when it is running I doubt there is a big problem I did have a bad conector once at the front of the stator cover that shorted out and melted a pin on me. It required taking the rubber out of the conector to actually see what happened to it, so you may want to pull that plug apart and inspect it .
