I had my boat (96 bayliner jazz) out on the water to test it for the first time ,I was putting around at about 5 mph for 3 minutes then WOT for about 20 seconds, it seemed sluggish at WOT. After I got it back out of the water I noticed my oil resuviour was about 2 inches lower from when I starte. the alarm was going off the whole time since I started it in the water but I knew the engine wasn't overheated and the oil resuviour was full so I decided to run it anyways...I noticed it seemed to smoke a lot but I'm not sure how much is normal and what is normal oil comsumption. Could I be injecting too much oil some how? Any reasion why my alarm would be constantly ringing if oil is full and engine is cool? The manual says it only goes off when one of those two happen.

I would not worry about oil consumption for the first few hours of running , I would determine the alarm cause . since there is no test here is what I would do . Unplug the temp sender and oil switch and start , see if the alarm goes off . If it does not then hook them back up , run it until you have the alarm and then unplug each one to isolate which one it is . If it does go off with the sensors unplugged plug the temp sensor back in and make a jumper wire for the low oil switch and jump the wires and start if it is off , run the boat and if it does not go off you have a bad oil level sensor .

Hey, the alarm quit going off the second time I took it on a test run . The oil use issue straightened itself out o think, ran it for a solid 10 minutes it hardly moved on the container. Testing more today!

These things are "famous" for some stuck rings , eat the hates out of gas and oil .. sounds like your motor loosened and it is fine . The oil /water alarm was probably due to the engine sitting. Hope you enjoy the boating season !!!:D
