96 Sea Doo XP, not sure what size motor but the title has 42 hp on it, it is a 2 cylinder Rotax motor #4741066.

-The starter has low torque so I took it apart and found it only has two brushes positioned at 90 degrees apart?? I have never seen that, it seems they mostly have 4 brushes at 90 and motors I see that do only have two brushes have them at 180 degrees apart. Can someone tell me what the brush configuration is on these starters. It looks like it is possibly missing a plate that holds the other two brushes.

The guy I bought it from mixed the gas and oil and I plan to do the same rather than chance burning it up. I noticed that in addition to the small oil injector pump feed line, there is a large line (3/8" ID maybe) from the bottom of the oil resevoir that gravity feeds oil to the lower part of the engine. What is this line? If it lubricates something in the lower end of the motor do I have to keep the resevoir full in addition to putting oil in the fuel?

Thanks, Kevin

Re: 96 Sea Doo XP starter and oil question

Your ski has a 787cc motor that puts out 110hp. It will do low-mid 50s depending on the weight of the rider, water conditions, humidity, and relation to sea level.

The line you're referring to is the one that feeds water into the oil injector. Are you sure that the oil injection is not functional? If it is and you're putting oil in the gas then you will blow a ton of smoke out of the exhaust and foul up the spark plugs and it won't run very well.

The guy before me was told the injection system was not functional so I was going on that. I thought I could do away with the oil resevoir if I mix the oil in the fuel until I found this large line that seems to gravity feed oil to the lower portion of the motor from the resevoir.

Why do they feed water into the oil injector?

Sorry, I meant oil into the oil injector.

If I were you, I'd remove the oil injector all together and install a block off in its place or put in a new oil injector. The oil injector works great when it's functional and will more than pay for itself in the money you'll be saving in oil and spark plugs. If you do decide to go the block off route, then you'll have to install a line with oil in it so the rotary valve is still lubed as premix won't do anything for that.
