96 model nissan 18 hp cranking problems.

my boat hasn't been cranked since early summer.At that time it was running like a top.Now it is having problems cranking.The only way to get it cranked is to take plugs out and put gas into cylinders.It cranks and runs for a couple of minutes and dies.Then wan't crank at all until i repeat..anyone have suggestions???:confused:

I assume you mean it does crank, but doesn't start. Probably a fuel system problem. Diagnose that system first. Verify good fuel delivery through the tank, primer, filter, etc., to the carb. Have the carb cleaned correctly.

good flow all the way through fuel filter...could it possibly be fuel pump on side of carb.?

Could be a lot of things, but if you prime the fuel system, that should push fuel through the pump... and if it doesn't start at that point, even if the pump weren't pumping, you still should have the proper fuel level in the bowl. When was the carb last properly cleaned? Was the motor run out of fuel before shutting it down for the season? If not, a proper carb cleaning won't hurt.

Seems you have a stucked needle valve inside carb, open bowl and check. Run carb dry before stoping the engine specially if it's a 2 stroker.
