I bought my first Bass boat last week and have a few questions after taking her out on the lake this past week. Before I took her out I filled up the oil tank in the back compartment. I didn't see a fill line on the tank, so I filled her up to about 2 inches from the the top with Quicksilver 2 cycle oil. The day after I got back from the river I noticed that oil was leaking from underneath the cowl. I took it off and noticed that the oil cap on top of the oil tank on the engine had cracked at the top, and oil had been slung around the inside of the cowl. No of course the guy I bought the boat from no longer had the owner's manual for the engine (I've ordered one from Merc. but it hasn't come in yet). I know the cap wasn't cracked before I bought the boat, and we took it out for a test drive before I bought it as well, and I did not see any leaking oil afterwards. Did I fill the oil tank too much? I'm thinking the pressure had no where to go and busted the cap on the oil tank on the engine (which I have repalced with a new one). Just want some advice before I start her up again.

the caps are famous for cracking when overtightend
it has a cork gasket , and snug is good ..
no, it was not anything to do with the remote tank , or pressure..
