96 Merc 115hp- 2 plus 2/ 2 stroke

Looking for some basic ideas on this motor that has trouble going from idle (2 cylinders) to ?up on plane? using all 4 cylinders. I usually can?t get a smooth transition from idle to full throttle. I don?t know if this is an electronic issue or mechanical when changing from 2 to 4 cylinders to get up on plane. Has anyone experienced this problem? Solutions?
Even with just 2 cyl. working I can get on plane but clearly this isn?t right and it takes a while too. Am I damaging the engine when only running on 2 cylinders at cruising speed?
