I have a 96 Mariner 25HP tiller steer. I cannot determine how to hook up the high idle wire. It just drops in the slot where the idle adjustment screw is. I don’t believe this is where it goes but I have no idea where it is supposed to connect. Can anyone give me any help?

Thanks

That is how my 1994 25hp merc is. There should be a small hook on the end inside the slot and that is what pulls the throttle forward....Turn the primer knob to the right and you should see it pull back and increase the idle...They tend to fall out as you probably know... I made one after I lost mine and then I found the original in the bilge of the boat months later...EDIT That bend in the wire is what allows the throttle to move freely....As you increase throttle the bend makes the wire "ride" up inside the slot...

Thanks for the response. I am not the brightest bulb in the knife drawer so is there anyway you might be able to take a picture and post it. If it is not too much trouble. My boat stays in my yard but I know a lot of people don’t have that option.
Thanks a lot for the information

The pictures help. That is where I am placing mine. The problem is that the end goes into the oval slot and is not secured by anything. Maybe a piece of mine is missing. Mine just lays in there so when the prime knob is turned it slides in the grove and does not change the idle at all.
