I removed the top and bottom screw and drained the gear oil in the lower unit of my motor then once it drained out I pumped new gear oil in through the bottom plug hole until it came the top then I put in the top screw removed the pump from the bottom drain plug and put the plug in. Then I tightened up both screws and thought everything was finished. The next day I went back out to the garage and a decent amount of oil leaked out of the bottom drain plug screw. Does anyone have any ideas of what I may have done wrong? Last year the same thing happened and I had to take it in to the shop and they ran a pressure test and it was leaking so they replaced the seals on the inside of the motor. The shop I took it to is no longer in business and the other shop in my area is backed up so it will take them three weeks to look at it. Does anyone have any other ideas of what it could be? Any help would be much appreciated.

You may need new drain screw gaskets, one for each screw. They are nylon washers and available right here on Iboats. Be sure that you have the old ones out before putting in the new ones and tighten snuggly.

OMC made two different types of drain plug screws. Make sure you have the right gasket/ oring for the type of plug you have.
