96 johnson 9.9-15 carb. Choke ??

Hello all, I recently bought a 15 hp carburetor off ebay, in great shape, but did not see where it said the carb had an electric choke before. My 9.9 choke was manual..my question is, how/can you convert from manual to electric. What all parts do I need. Any info would be greatly appreciated, and if you can link a video it would be a huge help..thank you

Believe the '96 carb/motor would use a primer system -- If so, the carb would not have a choke flapper in the front.

The electric primer ( aka choke ) is not part of the carburetor.----It is a separate item that works very well on electric start remote motors.

I understand that, tryin to figure out if I can buy a complete kit to make it work lol..my boat is a pull start

If you are going to duplicate that system on your 9.9 motor with the "new" 15 carb, you will need to find all of the bits and pieces for that system. Go here to iBoats or to Marine engine or another source and look at a parts breakdown for the primer system. I am not aware of a system package you could buy, but maybe you can find a dead 15 with the system -- buy the dead 15.

Did you have to drill a hole, or were there punchouts?

What's the part numbers for the 2 you've found? I cant find the carb using the number stamped on it

Prepare to get in the weeds. That would usually be a part number for the carb part it's stamped on. The carb number is typically a tin tag held on by one of the bowl mounting screws. You can verify that you have a 15 by looking at the throat size (See Leroy's Ramblings re. 9/15 hp J&E.)

Good luck with the project. Maybe the Ebay seller will exchange for a 15hp choked carb to put on your 9.9.

If on Ebay, you would need to get the seller to show (in the above example) that the carb came from a J15REDS -- would want to see one of those numbers for the carb he's selling. (And something more than a number he derived from the motor model number.)

Find a manual primer from a manual start 25 hp and plum it in.
