96 Johnson 60 HP intermittant spark

I intermittantly lose the spark on my middle cylinder. Does not seem to be temp. related because sometime the motor starts up bad, sometimes it will run fine all day. I gambled on a new coil since it was relatively cheap. It did not help. Is there an easy way to determine if the problem is the powerpack or the stator? Plug and plug wire is good.

Also, check for broken wires in the timer base. You can find these on ebay used cheap. I fought a similar problem for three months until I found a timer base problem.

Thanks Sherm. The flywheel turned loose last night so later today I will take a peek at the timer base.
