96 johnson 150 hp help please

fresh water only<br />when decel from wot, when engine reaches about 3800 rpm it starts sputtering and if left alone will die if give it gas she will cough keep sputtering but wont die..the engine was just rebuilt..however this problem was there b4 the rebuild

Compression test. <br /> Power pack output to coil with peak reading meter, with boat in water in gear all rpms, to insure system ok.<br /> Remove hose to fuel restriction sensor, connect vacumn gage should be close to 4 inches max at all rpms,in water in gear.<br /> Check for arcing between ignition coil and plate that covers power pack.<br /> If you used wiseco pistons and OMC clearence, the pistons may be to tight.<br /> Fuel pressure. <br /> Did you get new VRO pump with rebuild?

thanx the mech who rebuilt it is water testing it today
