He guys, looking for some advice. I'm thinking about purchasing a 16 foot fiberglass boat with a Force 1996 40 HP motor. According to the owner the motor does not run and per the boat mechanic the Power Head has a problem and is not worth fixing. Does this sound accurate? The boat is $550 and is in good condition so I think it is worth the asking price but I was just wondering if the motor can be repaired and if it would be spendy?

Re: 96 Force 40 HP Power Head problem

As long as the block is not cracked and the cylinders have enough material in them to be bored out, the powerhead can be rebuilt. A rebuid kit is around $800.00 for a larger force engine. Not to sure on yours. This dont include machine shop labor or assembly labor. I am sure you can find a good used outboard on E-bay or somewhere else for about the cost you will have in rebuilding yours.
