Hello
Can someone tell me where I should look for the trim sender unit on my 1996 150 HP Evinrude? The gauge works, tested with a meter, but doesn't work.

Also the temp gauge doesn't receive a signal from the temp sender. Can someone tell me where on the power-head it is please?

Cheers form NQ Oz

The trim sender sits between the transom brackets, attached to the port one. The engine has to be tilted up to see it. If you go to this factory website and look up your specific engine, you will see the sender on the diagram page called "midsection.) There is no a temp gauge sender on the engine from the factory. There are two temp switches (basically an on/off switch) that tell the (hot) warning horn when to turn on/off. If you want to drive the temp gauge on the dash, you'll have to install a sender which is compatible with your gauge.

Thanks emd.

I'll see if the sender unit at the transom bracket is corroded or just needs freeing up.

Re the temp, there is a oil and temp light and buzzer on the tacho. As the P/O had a temp gauge in the dash I incorrectly assumed that there would be a temp sender unit on the power head some where.

Thanks again

Kerry, That motor likely has the OMC System Check gauge capability. It comes as the form of a tachometer with 4 lights or a separate gauge. The lights/alarms are for low oil in the reservoir, no oil being mixed into the gasoline at the OMS pump, overheat and "Check Engine" which is a fuel line restriction of some kind. You might like to consider installing these warning lights.

Hi Chris
I have seen the oil light come on when the oil box runs low, that one works. The gauge is the dash threw me I think. It must be from an older motor.

The Check engine light came on once and the motor stalled almost immediately. There was a spare fuel can pinching the fuel line. So that one works too. I have been reading this forum for some time now and the depth of knowledge on offer is immense to say the least!

Thanks for your help. During my refit I want to install new gauges so I'll ask for some direction when the time comes.

Cheers Kerry
