Just bought a Ranger 361XT with the 150 on it and a hotfoot.
This engine will run perfectly after it starts, at a idle or full throtle.

The problem is cold starts. I killed the battery yesterday at conley bottoms trying to get it to start, a 2 hour drive for me...pist off to say the least..

I replaced the cover, rubber diaphram and red lever on the primer.
The red lever had a crack down it, dripped gas when you was pressing in the key. Replaced the NGK plugs with Champions 78's, still no difference.

I live about 3 miles from a boat ramp on laurel lake, and on the lake at least three nights a week, sometimes it will start and not crank 3 times, sometimes you kill the battery, makes no sense to me, other than the problem is getting worse now.

Watch the tach, does it crank at 300 rpm when trying to start ?
If it will not fire do a spark test , go to autozone and get a $12 spark tester, set the gap to 716th inch gap.
Or use a timing light.
If spark is good are the plugs getting fuel on them or are they dry?
You can test the choke by disconnecting the fuel line and pressurizing the line, push the key and watch for fuel.

Cranking is 200 RPM.

Plugs are dry...Keep pressing in the key, and cranking, and gas will start dripping from the bottom of the engine, but plugs are still dry.

Intake gasket sucking air?

Stuck reeds?
Would some additive clean this if it is?

Pull the hose coming out of the primer soleinod to the carbs. Do you get gas there? Are you sure the solenoid is working?

Yeah it will squirt gas from both little hoses when the key is pressed in.

It gets so much gas, it drips from the prop, but the spark plugs are dry as a bone.

Crank rpm is supposed to be 300rpm.
Its not an air leak because it idles good,
an air leak would cause a 2000rpm idle.

My guess is the yellow wire with red stripe is not sending 12v to the powerpack while cranking, no ignition from the powerpack due to bad connections, evident by the 200rpm cranking speed.

Remove battery cable ends and clean up nice and shiny at starter, disconnect battery first. If no go test the cable with a meter for resistance.
