Hi guys, I rebuilt my carbs over the weekend and performed Link 'N Synch. I am a bit nervous about my timing. In my Seloc Manual it says to set the short timing advance rod to 2.5" from ball joint center to ball joint center, mine was set at 2.75" ( I am the second owner). I reset this to 2.5" as recommended and backed out idle stop screw to the recommended 1/2' from screw head bottom to the cam. I am just nervous about damaging my engine. How can I tell if my timing is set correctly at Idle and WOT without bringing it to the lake and running it at WOT and possibly damaging my engine?
Also I notices that the wires that run up to my spark advance lever are zip tied to a few other wires which prevents the rubber stop on the idle stop screw from coming in contact with the cam, should I cut it free and re zip tie it looser so it isnt acting like a spring?
Also my Airbox has a sticker on it that reads "14 degrees BTC" does this sound like the correct timing for this Motor, J50TLED?
Any pointers are welcomed, Thanks

The only way to tell where your timing is at is with a timing gun.
I'm sure the manual got you pretty close but you need the gun to tell exactly where you are.

Well I used the Joe Reeves timing method on this and was very impressed that when I put the timing gun on it after following the initial set up specs in teh Seloc manual. The timing was spot on 19degrees BTC less 4 degrees per Joe Reeves. Thank you Joe.
