Hey, So I bought a 1996 45 hp johnson. After my 1989 40hp mariner finally giving out. So I put the boat in the water engine starts fine idles away. After half throttle there was nothjng. Just bogging out. So took carbs off and cleaned them changed the spark plugs and whatnot everything seemed to be good. It does work better now but it just doesn't seem right. I still don't think I'm getting all the go out of this motor. The boat is 16' fiberglass. It's not heavy in any way and that 40 mariner I had could push this boat up to 45 kms and hour or faster. This 45 johnson only does 33-34 kms/hr. So checked the prop tonight thinking that May be a problem. It's an evinrude prop with numbers 13.25 x 17 T65188. After looking around it seems like this Is the proper propeller. Any suggestions on what could be happening here cause I don't know what else to do.

Now that you mention it. The bubble on the hose from the gas tank to the engine do go hard with these carbs. I tried a set of carbs the other day off of a 55hp johnson(still had the same problems as I'm mentioning in the last post) but the bubble did not go hard I could pump it all day and I couldn't see where or If the gas was coming out or wherever it could be going. But yes the bulb do go hard.

Also the reason I kinda think it's the prop cause this trouble is because in neutral I can rev the engine as high as I want. It's responsive to my throttle lever and seems to work fine. It's just trying to plane out on the water even by myself it's not getting 100%. Maybe 80% tops.

Most motors will rev up it nuetral !--That means nothing.--It will wind up on one cylinder.----So testing needs to be done here.---Compression test as mentioned earlier and check for STRONG spark on each cylinder , it must jump a gap of 3/8" on both.

Ok checked it all out after installing a new carburator kit and all. Only running on one cylinder. Lots of gas going to the carb. The plug has spark. Not sure how much but there is spark. Compression is 130psi on each cylinder. What the f$&k is going on here?
