First off, hi to all. Just joined forum and look forward to membership.

I was just given a 96 Eurosport boat with a 96 Mercruiser 3.0LX Alpha One by my granddad. He told me currently the only way he can start the boat is by arching it off with a screwdriver and then it will fire right up. Does this sound to be the starter solenoid? Thats what he thinks it is. If so, how hard will that be to replace?

Thanks!

Depends on where your using the screwdriver. If your doing it on the starter itself, then the slave is bad.

It could be anything from the key switch on back to the starter solenoid. Is there any clicking noise from the engine area when the key is turned to start?

BT and Bond-o's advice sounds good to me, start with what they suggested.

If you hear the solenoid click that should be your problem. I had a 79 f250 that did the same thing and a 94 suzuki motocycle same thing. good luck.
