Re: '96 225 VRO oil piston
OK, OK, I'm guilty of using the word "VRO" incorrectly, but only as a generic term for the Johnson-Evinrude oiling system, as that is what most people call it. That is why the word VRO is in quotes!

Actually, the last VRO was about 15 years ago in 1991. The '92 and later pumps were called Oil Metering Systems ( OMS ) and were identified by the blue-gray fuel outlet nipple. Contrary to some beliefs, the OMS pump was not a fixed 50:1 ratio output. The OMS varied a bit from 75:1 at idle to about 50:1 at high speeds. According to the VRO story listed in the FAQ section of this forum, most folks averaged about 60:1.

To Claude 70,

Yes, your 2004 pump is the latest design and is fully repairable.

To Flubs,

Your '98 pump is fully repairable also as long as the output fuel fitting is held in place with an oval steel plate and 2 Torx screws. If your pump does not have that, then it is an earlier model.
