Yep, did a search and found a couple of pages on these things. I haven't found an answer to my question yet... Yesterday, out fishing with my son, the low oil level warning comes on... i stop, check the tank and it's plenty full. I get home, pull the blue wires off from the sensor switch, and the beeping stops. So, bad switch. Here's my question. I've become extremely 'anal' about checking everything on the boat every time I take it out, especially oil and fuel levels. If i just leave the oil level switch disconnected, will the overheat alarm still work (i'm guessing it will)

I'm also curious whether or not my '96 has an oil injection pump sensor, letting me know if its working or not, or if it's simply a level sensor for the oil tank.

Thanks Much

You only have an oil level sensor. The oil level and overheat alarms are independent.

I'm not going to jump on the "use premix" bandwagon because I REALLY like oil injection.

Had the float magnet fall off of the level sensor inside of the oil tank. No way of getting it out to glue back into place without cutting the tank open. Bought a new oil tank at $35.

That's what I've thought, just a level alarm. I'll probably just keep it disconnected on the level, keep the overheat hooked up, and keep a close eye on the oil tank. Thinking very hard of killing the injection system off, and running pre-mix, like I did on every motor i've ever owned up until this one. It just 'worries' me a bit to think what would happen if the oil pump quit while running at 3-4000 rpm.

I have the same motor only a '94 model year. Same thing happened to mine. Disconnected the blue wires temporarily to get me thru the day of fishing. Was on day one of a two day tournament. Just kept checking oil levels and watching for blue smoke until after the tournament. Didn't want to go with pre-mixed (like oil injection). Just bought a new tank for $40 and problem solved. Hope yours turns out as easy.

The oil pump is very reliable, until owner start hotrodding and over reving their motors, then the nylon gear on the crank begins to wear.

NOT a problem on the 4 cyl in-lines as it is the V6's that get hot rodded.

As long as you keep reputable oil in it and do not mix different brands of oil your pump drive gear should outlive both of us.
