A couple quick questions, Can the upper crankshaft bearing be replaced without splitting the cases? Im guessing it can since the assembly appears to bolt in. Second, my manual says the bearing is not replaceable, and the upper bearing support assemby must be replaced? Is this correct? Is it not possible to replace the bearing and seal? If it is, then does anyone know where I can order the appropriate parts?

Thanks Van

You can remove the housing without splitting the cases. There are even 2 slots for a small prybar.

The bearing itself can be replaced if you can find another one. OMC didnt and BRP doesnt sell them seperately. Obviuosly the seal is easily replaced as are the O rings.

Believe it or not at one time OMC did sell that bearing but it was listed in the Cobra catalogs. I'm not sure where it was used -- we just stumbled across the number one day. Later that number became obsolete.

If you need a new one call Jeff at Flagship (800-282-2840) and see if he'll sell you one of the remanufactured ones.

Whats wrong with yours?

Re: 96 115 crossflow upper crank bearing

The powerhead was completely rebuilt about 2 years ago, but that bearing assembly was not replaced. Now the flywheel has a slight amount of play in it side to side. It makes a slight clacking noise as it moves, which is amplified to being slightly noticable when it runs. Its not bad, just noticable to me. If the replacement was fairly easy, I was gonna stick a new bearing in, or replace the assembly if not too terribly expensive.

Thanks Van
