common problem the float has become heavy and will no longer float so it signals the computer, you can't get just a float so that means you have to replace the entire sending unit and that is expensive,, if you unplug the little wire harness at the sending unit and make a jumper wire to conect the two wires in the plug on the end that feeds from the computer it will make your fuel gauge read full all the time but the stupid red light will go off. you are probably looking at the fuel tank when you want to know what is in it so you can continue to check your fuel level in that manner if you jump the sending unit plug. another way to do that is to slide the float to the top after you pull the sending unit from the tank and insert a stainless screw below the float so it stays at the top of the circut board, but this is a lot of work just to turn off the light.
