I was just test starting on the muffs and was looking at the outdrive while idling. Nearly all of the hose water was exiting the outdrive up near the transom where the outdrive pivots. It was my understanding that the exhaust on this drive exited between the horizontal plates just above the props. There was a slight bit of water and exhaust coming from between these plates, but not the majority by far.

Each time I go boating, there is a lot of exhaust "soot" all over the transom surrounding the outdrive.

Where should it be exiting?

If I had a manual I wouldn't need to keep posting here for the easy questions. Which manual do you suggest Merc original equipment, seloc, or clymer?

THanks for your help.

There are Relief Holes at about mid-transom,.......
That's Normal........

The "Soot" is from an engine that's running "Rich"..........
Your Engine is Out of Tune...............

Get a Merc. manual,......... The others are for Starting Fires.............. ;)
